State Bar of Texas Advanced Personal Injury Law - July, August, September 2011

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. addressed the largest annual CLE sponsored by the State Bar on the topic of Federal Health Care Reform and the opportunities it has created for lawyers handling health care fraud and Federal False Claims Act cases.   The speech, "Amendments to the Federal False Claims Act," is a primer on the changes that have broadened the scope of false claims litigation and the standing of those who can serve as whistleblowers.  Perdue Kidd & Vickery continues to represent whistleblowers with the courage to expose fraudulent practices and profiteering from the taxpayer well.

University of Texas Car Crash Seminar - August 18, 2011

Donald H. Kidd gave a presentation at this premiere continuing legal education seminar about Distracted Driving.  Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of motor vehicle crashes, injuries and deaths, with people under age 30 as its greatest victims. 

Tex-ABOTA Annual Meeting - June 17, 2011

Jim Perdue, Jr. spoke to a collection of the most accomplished trial lawyers in Texas at Tex-ABOTA's Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, NM.  The topic -- "Theories on Thinking Thoughts" -- was a survey of modern neuroscience studies of the human brain and new understandings about the way we all reach decisions.  The innovative speech used advertisements and marketing schemes to demonstrate methods of appealing to the human mind.

TTLA Annual Meeting - June 2, 2011

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. joined noted author and jury consultant David Ball in a seminar teaching modern approaches for appealing to juries related to Ball's work "Reptile."  Perdue's speech was titled "Growing the Reptile -- From Case Intake to Trial" and offered concrete examples to trial lawyers in the effort to properly frame their cases early and develop the necessary facts to give the most effective presentation to a modern jury.

Amarillo Bar Institute - April 30, 2011

"The Good,The Bad & The Ugly -- Power Point at Trial" was enthusiastically received by the Amarillo Bar Association's membership from Jim M. Perdue, Jr.  Invited to come to the Texas panhandle and speak on a Saturday morning, Perdue shared examples of effective use and distracting use of visual presentations and power point slides by trial lawyers in all nature of cases.

TTLA Rules of the Road Seminar - March 29, 2011

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. taught the principles of Opening Statement to students at Texas Trial Lawyers Association's annual seminar in Houston.   Don Kidd will taught the practical considerations involved in litigation. The seminar was located in the conference facility in Four Oaks Place and is hosted by Perdue & Kidd, LLP.

Advanced Medical Malpractice Seminar, State Bar of Texas - March 18, 2011

"New Federal Causes of Action" was Jim M. Perdue, Jr.'s speech to the annual Medical Malpractice conference in Santa Fe, NM.  The paper and speech addresses the extensive changes to the Federal False Claims Act after the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010 (federal health care reform) which have broadened the rights and remedies for whistleblowers to bring actions for health care fraud.

State Bar of Texas Litigation Institute - January 20, 2011

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. delivered the Personal Injury and Torts Update to the Texas Bar's annual Litigation Section meeting and CLE in San Antonio, Texas.  The speech focused on cases from the Texas Supreme Court from 2010 that impact products liability, premises liability and the sprectrum of torts law, from duty to damages, in the state.

TTLA Annual Meeting - December 1, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. and Don Kidd participated in a live focus group demonstration of jury selection and opening statement for the annual gathering of personal injury attorneys practicing in Texas.  The demonstration was based upon an auto pedestrian crash, and served as a valuable test for the cases' merits.  The focus group assisted in resolving the case for the plaintiffs in January, 2011.

23rd Institute on the Profession of Law, Rhodes College - October 22, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. debated the president of the American Tort Reform Association in Memphis, Tennessee on the topic of National Health Care Liability Laws.   The debate covered the morning and brought an audience to Rhodes College of attorneys, businessmen and citizens to hear the opposing views.  Perdue discussed the experience in Texas and academic studies showing no differentiation in insurance rates or health care costs in states with tort restrictions as opposed to those without.

34th Annual Page Keeton Civil Litigation Conference - October 29, 2010

"Opening Statement and the Role of Neuroscience" was the title of Jim M. Perdue, Jr.'s presentation at this year's annual civil litigation CLE in Austin sponsored by the University of Texas Law School.  The speech and paper focuses on new approaches to appeal to the decision making instincts of contemporary jurors.

SATLA Real World CLE - September 16, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. addressed the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association on Thursday, September 16 on approaches to "Voir Dire During the Immigration Debate."  The speech looks at evolving anti-immigrant rhetoric and its impact on potential jurors views of certain issues that can arise in personal injury cases, as well as specific questions to identify negative attitudes and techniques to address them during jury selection.

The "Medical Malpractice Update" was delivered for the State Bar CLE in Houston by Jim M. Perdue, Jr.  The speech attempts to cover the entire waterfront of important legal developments over the last year in malpractice cases, with Perdue even discussing Supreme Court opinions in medical cases that had been issued 5 days earlier.

Advanced Civil Trial Seminar, State Bar of Texas - August 27, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. traveled to Dallas to speak on "Modern Trends in Oil and Gas Law."  The topic addresses the challenges the firm encounters when areas of Oil & Gas law once considered settled and established, which benefit landowners, royalty and working interest owners, and smaller operators, become subjected to judicial rulings that favor larger corporate energy interests.

The Car Crash Seminar: From Sign-Up to Settlement - August 19-20, 2010 - The University of Texas School of Law

Don Kidd presented an update of his paper "To File Suite or Not to File Suit: Practical Considerations in Pre-Suit Case Handling."  Don participated in the panel discussion "Ask the Experts" following the first day of the conference.  Don also served as presiding officer for the Friday morning session of the conference.

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. and Jim M. Perdue, Sr. spoke Friday afternoon on "The Art of Storytelling and Persuasion at Trial."  The joint presentation gave two generations of approaches to trial tactics and techniques for advocacy at trial.

Road Rules Dallas -- Car Wrecks Seminar - July 22, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. spoke in Dallas, Texas on "How Not to Try Your Case Twice."  The speech concentrated on trial strategies to insure, once forced to try the case, attorneys can avoid creating points for appeal by the other side to further delay a conclusion and recovery.

Texas Trial Lawyers Association's Trial Advocacy College of Texas - May 14, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. shared the concepts for developing and delivering "Effective Closing Argument" to the TACT College in Austin, Texas.  The speech including re-creation of the closing argument given in Padron v. GSF Energy, which resulted in significant judgment for the widow and children of a deceased laborer killed at a gas processing plant.

SeminarWeb National Webcast - May 13, 2010

In a nod to the new technology of directly delivered CLE materials addressing current issues, Jim M. Perdue, Jr. presented a Webcast on "Voir Dire Amidst the Immigration Debate."  The webcast included Power Point, audio and video of Perdue explaining how the new framing of the immigration debate affects the venire's views and assumption of certain issues, including English language translation at trial, government sponsored health care, and uninsured drivers, especially but not limited to representation of Hispanic clients.

Louisiana Association for Justice - May 7, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. spoke in Baton Rouge, LA on "Digging Deeper to Maximize Value in 18 Wheeler Cases."  The importance of  thorough investigation -- use of Qualcomm boxes, driving logs, cell phone records, texting, and employment files -- to improve client's recoveries when injured by the conduct of a trucking company was covered.  The rules of interstate commerce and trucking regulations allow for discoveries that Perdue & Kidd has used to improve client's causes.

Advanced Personal Injury Law - April 29, 2010

Principles for effective "Opening Statements" was the topic of Jim M. Perdue, Jr.'s speech to the TTLA Mid-year conference in Austin, Texas.  The speech, using Power Point slides from recent trial experiences, addressed the use of visual tools and rules analogies in case development.

Webb County Bar Association CLE - April 1, 2010

Jim M. Perdue, Jr. was invited to speak in Laredo, Texas to the local bar on "Modern Concepts of Persuasion."  The speech addressed new concepts of neuroscience and subliminal paths to persuade modern jurors.

Road Rules Houston: A Crash Course Car Wrecks Seminar - March 24, 2010 - Texas Trial Lawyers Association

Don Kidd presided over this seminar and presented the paper "How to Not Try Your Case Twice." The seminar was attended by over 100 trial lawyers in the Houston area.
