Metformin is currently being investigated as a cancer causing prescription drug. Those affected may be owed compensation. Read More info below.
The popular diabetes drug Metformin is being investigated by the FDA for containing a possible cancer-causing agent.
FDA reports Metformin may contain the carcinogen N-Nitrosodimethylamine, or NDMA. Which has led to previous recalls in blood pressure and heartburn medications. According to the report, Metformin is used to control high blood sugar with Type 2 diabetes. Nearly everyone is exposed to NDMA as it is a contaminant found in water and foods, but exposure to it over long periods may increase the risk of cancer, according to the FDA.
“The FDA is investigating whether metformin in the U.S. market contains NDMA, and whether it is above the acceptable daily intake limit of 96 nanograms,” said Janet Woodcock, director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
However, despite the investigation, those who use Metformin are being told to continue taking it to keep their diabetes under control.
Metformin may be linked to serious life threatening side effects such as Pancreatitis and Pancreatic Cancer.
